Project: Langwith Garden Village
Location: York
Sector: New Settlement
Status: Masterplan stage
Partners: Langwith Development Partnership & City of York Council
Langwith Village is a proposed new community on land west of Elvington Lane, incorporating part of the former Elvington Airfield.
The site is allocated in the adopted City of York Local Plan as a strategic location for a new standalone settlement, providing up to 3,300 new homes to help meet local housing needs. These homes will be supported by the infrastructure, services and green spaces needed to create a sustainable, thriving community.
The Langwith Development Partnership is bringing forward plans for a high-quality garden village, featuring new homes, schools, shops, community facilities, employment opportunities, and extensive walking and cycling connections.
A garden village is a carefully planned community designed to create a great place to live, work and enjoy. Alongside high-quality homes, including a significant proportion of affordable housing, it provides access to employment, green spaces, education, healthcare, local services and sustainable transport.
The vision for Langwith Village is to create a walkable, leafy and well-designed community that makes the most of both brownfield and greenfield land. The plans also include the sensitive regeneration of parts of the former airfield, celebrating the site’s unique heritage while creating a place fit for the future.
